Polypropylene Fiber Carpet

In the carpet industry the terms are typically used interchangeably.

Olefin and polypropylene are two names for the second most widely used carpet fiber after nylon. It is used in many different industries but one of the most popular is the manufacturing of carpet yarns. Olefin is not as durable as nylon but it s chemically inert and resists acid and bleach well.

Like polyester it tends to be a less expensive carpet to manufacture so it s a budget friendly option. Polypropylene fiber also known as polypropene or pp is a synthetic fiber transformed from 85 propylene and used in a variety of applications. Olefin also known as polypropylene is moisture and mildew resistant making it a popular choice for basements and indoor outdoor areas like covered porches.

For example most of the economical carpets for light domestic use are made from this fiber. It does not bleach easily since it is colorfast. Polypropylene olefin carpet fibers unlike other fiber types polypropylene will not absorb water so it is solution dyed. Olefin carpeting is also easily recycled.

A polypropylene rug is stain resistant. Rugs made from polypropylene fiber are more economical and visually pleasing than that of any nylon based rugs.
